Hi everyone, just been out for the first time this year and checked out a rose I planted about this time last year. I noticed it had a couple of brown stems in the centre which I'm guessing I should just cut down to the base? I've also got some little green flies on the new shoots of a different bush but I'm gonna do a little search on that. My main question is is it too early to give a feed yet, I use a liquid organic feed every four weeks and haven't used it right over winter, is it ok to start off again now?

Definitely cut back the dead wood. I would expose the bud union myself, I don't like it to rot under mulch. Mulch is fine for winter.

There is new growth coming out so it is time to feed. Roses should be cut back after each bloom cycle to an outward facing bud (prune to a vase shape) and fed. Keep an eye out for aphids and scale that will be coming for the young shoots and put out the ant bait.
