This is our first growing season in this house, and I almost dumped yard waste on this rose bush before I realized what it was. The pics are pretty accurate representation of color, the blooms are an inch-and-a-half or so across, very heady fragrance. Now it is having a very sparse rebloom, two buds, and is over two feet tall and wide, in the shade. It is in mostly shade under a pine tree; I plan to move it once the conditions are right.

It looks like an Old Garden Rose. Identification can be complicated if the rose is not grown in reasonable condition (you say your rose is in the shade). Shade can affect the appearance and size of the foliage and the flowers. You may want to consider getting some help from www.heritagerosefoundation.org.

In any case, as a shot in the dark, consider Rose de Rescht ([url]https://www.helpmefind.com/rose/pl.php?n=5467&tab=10&l=2.5467&nr=58592[/url]). I have this particular rose, and that is the closest that comes to mind. Rose de Rescht's flowers are bigger and more double than the one shown in your garden, but under less than ideal conditions, the flowers do look like yours. But then a number of other OGR's look very similar to each other in flower form. A close up of the leaves (both young and mature), stipules, and stems may be helpful.
