Wax on Deadwood

I have heard that after you remove gray dead stems from roses that you should cover the cut with wax. Has anyone else heard of this?

Also I remember on time I got an bare root Oaklahoma Rose from Lowes and about 3/4 of the rose was covered in wax. Needless to say I did nothing reguarding removal of wax, I just planted it, and it has been doing well.

Thanks-

The wax on those is to seal the graft; my nurseryman's course taught that wound dressing just gave another interface for fungus or vermin to hide and said to avoid it. As a bonsai person I have found Tough As Nails to be a great sealant; fungicide is bult in and it's totally clear. Try that before you start waxing...
