My rose pollen turned grey

I'm new to breeding roses and just last week I started collecting pollen for the first time. The pollen was beautifully yellow until this morning, when most of it turned grey. The pollen on that's in the q-tip tightly is still yellow, but all the loose stuff is grey. I put new pollen in the container just yesterday so I don't understand why it all turned grey at once. If it turned grey because it's old wouldn't the newer stuff still be yellow? Why did my pollen turn grey? Is it still viable? I couldn't find anything on the internet.
