GRAHAM THOMAS

Howdy Friends from Texas,

I was thinking about exchanging my hyacinth bean vine that is currently starting to shoot up my fence near my front door for the lovely Graham Thomas Climing Rose. I looked it up on the web, and apparently it orginated in '83 from Austin and loves hot Texas sun. It can be trained as a climber. I was wondering the following:

1. Anybody ever had experience with this rose?
2. Will this rose bloom with getting less than six hours of direct sun? Most roses need a good 8 hours of direct sun to be strong bloomers.
3. It's roots and lower plant would be shaded, but if it get's over the fence, it will have lots of hot morning sun well into 12-1 p.m. this spring and summer. So, should I plant it?

Before I buy....

Kevin, from what I'm finding Graham Thomas can take a bit of shade. You might want to have both the rose and the annual vine for this year until your rose gets some height.
