mature rose transplant during summer....help

Okay folks, I got one beast of a rose bush off Craigslist the other day, dug it up right out the ladies back yard, tallest branch goes about 6 foot, I did my best to get it out of the ground but after about 30 minutes I just needed to get it out, yeah, you guessed it, stab...stab...chop...chop....pulll...hey it was right up against her fence line and well... okay so I got it home put it in a pot,as both places my wife wanted me to put it wouldn't allow me to dig deep enough to plant it, one over a sewer line, and the other I think is also a line, didn't wanna chance it....anyway I've trimmed alot of it off, all the leaves and I'm watering it as much as I can, morning and evening... I've added mulch and soil to the pot it's in, and I wrapped the root in a garbage bag with dirt in it, so it doesn't get too hot, I know I know sounds really really bad, but I have faith...the stems are huge, inch thick, and there are about 5 really strong green looking stems, it had been growing for years. I don't know what type of rose it is, as all of them fell off shortly after getting it home, the rest were dried so I cut them off and put them in a vase for the wifey....so all that to say, HELP, I don't want it to die, I'd like to find out what kind it is, so I can learn more about it.

If you can post pictures of the blooms, that might help. Otherwise, rose bushes can be difficult to identify with so many varieties.

besides what variety is it, (which I doubt anyone will be able to answer unless you can post pictures of it in bloom, and even then can be difficult since as luis noted there are so many varieties) was there a question in there about how to keep it alive?

It sounds like you are aware that in the middle of a Texas heat wave is totally the wrong time to try moving a plant! I think the best thing you can do for it (after cutting the top stems back so they match the mangled roots more and the roots don't have so much top growth to try to support, but sounds like you have probably done that already) would be to get it back in the ground. I'd give it a bit of shade against hot afternoon sun. Keep it well watered, but not waterlogged, and don't fertilize it, at least until it is showing new growth.

these are the ones I pulled off the tree as I cut it back, the trashbag has plenty of holes in it, I just didn't have burlap, so I used that just to offer some type of shade, and then I put it in a big square pot and buried it in soil and compost and mulch, I soak it completely in the morning and night I put the pot into the ground about 4 inches, and the soil around it stays moist, I water every night until water flows out of the pot I let it drain and sometimes do it again.

okay, we're approaching day 6 of Rosedom! I'm still watering the rose beast, and I've shaved all the leaves off, now theres just a matter of the vines or canes that go everywhere, I've read to cut them back as much as the root, I'm just not sure how much that would be, the root was thick but not long strings of roots shooting out, as they chose to remain in the ground at the other house. see pics below....and tell me if should I make all this go away and cut them down to what a foot on each cane?
