Should I cut back my climbing Roses

I planted some new Gold Bunny climbing roses this spring and they doubled is size which is a good thing but they are now long and stringy. The Japaneze Beetles ate a lot of the leaves too. Should I cut the longer strands back in preperation for the early winters we get here in Cleveland? What can I do to protect them from the harsh winter?

I agree, now is not the time to cut them back. Cutting them only encourages new growth, and tender new growth now will only be winter killed. It is much better to waite until Spring to do any pruning, and be sure to winterize them well. The more they are covered, the better chance they have of surviving the winter, but don't do it to early. Waite for the first killing frost. Make sure they are well watered before that frost also, as dry plants will have more winter kill.
