I live in Toronto Canada where its really cold in winter its zone 5b
(I'm not sure what that translates to in the American zone since its different)
But anyway should the bud union be BELOW the surface or ABOVE? By how much?

The American Rose Society suggests planting roses with the bud union slightly below soil level (4-5 cm?) to protect it from freezing.
