When to remove winter cones?

hi! I'm in Chicagoland (zone 5), just wondering if it's time to take the cones off yet? I have three Rosa Blazes and 4 bushes planted, all but one Blaze were new (replacement ugh) plants last summer. It's in the 40s during the day(60s this week!), but at night-high 20s-low 30s...

any advice?

You should wait until two weeks after your average date of last frost. If the plant has leafed out and these canes have not, it is probably ok to prune them off but I would wait. Note: I usually wait until late May because some hydrangeas also do that.

Pruning the canes in 1-2" increments can help determine if they are dried out or still alive. Stop pruning when you hit green.
