Banana peels

I've heard that you can use banana peels in your soil. Is this true? If so what does it do to your soil and flowers?

Type banana peels into the Search the Forum feature and you get 54 hits! Some are about bananas in worm composting, but some are about bananas in the soil. Here's just a couple to start you off:

I love using banana peels for my roses, I usesd it before and my rose blooms were so huge and pretty. I make a banana peel shake I chop up the peels and I put in the blender with a a bit of water. and then feed them to my roses they love it.

Anyone else had this problem? Hope not!

If rats or other animals are digging up organic matter, just add a small amout of garden lime on top of the organics. That way they won't be as likely to dig....most animals don't like lime. BTW, garden lime is good for the soil Ph.

If your soil is too acidic, that is. My soil is too alkaline and lime would be the last thing I would want to add. Most veggies and many flowers like soil that is a little on the acid side of neutral. So you need to know, before you add lime.
