Transparent brown leaves

Can anyone give advice about brown transparent blotches on the laeves of my roses? It started in one small area, and has now spread all over one large rose and onto another. We have recently installed a watering system, which waters at night - could this be the culprit?
the roses are planted on a bank facing south.
Thanks,
Gins

Yes, I think the overhead watering might be contributing to the problem. It would help us a lot to see pictures of the damaged leaves. Instructions for posting pictures can be found at Tips & Suggestions for New Members. :)

Could be a potash shortage. Especially if the brown is around the edge. You should make sure you use a compound fertilizer to help alleviate it. Though hurry, you don't want to be feeding plants much after July as their metabolism is starting to slow down.

Good luck

Without seeing the damaged leaves, it's hard to say. Leaf miners can create what I would call "transparent blotches" on leaves.
