PLanting Knockouts

Hi e1.
I looked at many previous threads and think I may have found my answer, but I'll run this by you just in case.

Last week we planted 2 Knockouts, I am in NC, the weather has been very mild.

I spooned some rose food and mixed it in the soil, that I backfilled the hole with.

They look awful, many brown spots on leaves and they seem to be falling off.

My feeling and from what I've read here is they were over fed somehow...if that is the case can they be saved? and how?

Thanks
Bob in NC

The only treatments I know of for excess fertilizer are either to dig up the plant and replant it in fresh soil, or to flood the soil around the plant with water in an effort to wash out some of the fertilizer.
