Help: Did I just kill my roses by pruning in January?

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to gardening and I woke up to get to work on my roses January one here in Denver, where it 's in the 50's now but can get to -20 degrees. I cut them way back, and now my wife believes I may have killed them because they are not protected for winter.

Any advice on whether this is true or if there is a way to protect them would be great.

Thank you!
