Hiya guys,

I was away for a few days with my roses unattended and to my surprise, I have a big problem with fungus.

For immediat remedy, I had applied milk, soap and Epsom salt mixture spray and cut off those problem leaf and burnt them.Really appreciate with your advices.

Below is a picture of the fungus. Hope to hear from you guys soon.

Looks like powdery mildew to me; neem oil is my usual remedy, and the milk makes a great preventive. The smallish dots on the leaves; are those aphids? Their honeydew can start fungal problems so the neem oil sounds like a great idea as it will take care of both issues...

Yep, powdery mildew - usually coming in late summer, early fall when the days are warm, the the nights begin to get cooler. It can also be caused by being to damp all the time with no air circulation. Neem oil as Scott suggests is the way to go for this.
I'm not sure either what the other spots are - it's hard to tell. Are they aphids, or are they actually bumps in the leaves?

I will continue to monitor the roses. Unfortnately, I don't have any Neem oil, I have spent a month to locate the supply in France, but the French has no idea what it is at all.

I had asked a friend from Thailand to bring me a tree of Neem (baby tree)in plastic bottle. I wonder how can I make use of this Neem tree later to be useful as insecticide?

Mon cher Pixi - I have found a site for you that you can get Neem oil in France from:

You can make your own extracts by crushing and seeping the leaves and seeds from the Neem tree in water or weak alcohol.

This is also a wonderful site about the Neem tree and all of it's properties and uses that is very good.

Hiya VAL,

I have got rid of the fungus, and here is a picture of the tiny rose within the bush I discovered. The irregular shape of the flower and a tinge of red might be due to unbalance or changement of nutrients, since it has been unattended for a long while.

To treat it, I spray the rose leaf with milk, Epsom salt, bicarbonate salt and mild body shampoo without fragrance. I repeat every 2 days, immediately after sunset. It seems the leaf is super healthy again.

There is another rose that is going to bloom in a few days time, I will let you have a look too.

It is looking VERY healthy Pixi! Do you know which rose it is? Is it marked? Just curious, or if I could start guessing!

There is a only a marking "rosier en form de trigular". I begin to suspect the shape is susposed to be trigular now , so strange...

I don't think I am familiar with the word "trigular"?
I was kind of thinking this either looked like Garden Party, or Peace, but I would have to know more like how many petals it has on a bloom, how tall is it, what is the foliage like, is it very thorny?
We do know that it is very healthy!!

I'll say that is the healthiest rose foliage I have ever seen. Absolutely beautiful, such beautiful contrast with the flower itself. That photo's a keeper!

I believe it is the good genes of the roses I have that gives thick, deep green, healthy leaf.

VAL: I will try to gather my courage to tear up the rose after it is withered later to count the petals. It is cruel to tear them up really..I have never bought any cut flowers in my entire life as I cant bare to see flowers being cut. Flowers for me are meant to be in pot only.

I will take some photo of the thorns and leaf for you to identify them. Sorry for the typo error, the word was meant to be 'triangular'.

Grey: I beleive it is the Epsom salt and milk I spray on my roses every alternate day that gives them the shine and green. All my roses have good leaf due to this spray.

Bonjour Pixi! I am sure it is all the loving care you give your roses as well that make them so healthy!!
I will wait for you to let me know about number of petals, thorns, etc. I know what you mean about cutting flowers. I always want to cut bouquets of flowers out of my garden, and have used my roses in several weddings, but while I am cutting them, I hesitate, and think - maybe not that one!
The thing is, the more we cut our flowers, the more they will bloom!!!
I am bringing some of my roses in today to dry in silica so I can have their beauty through the winter as well. Frost will hit us any day now.

Hiya Guys!

Attached are a few photos of the rose in the bush which I had a serious fungus problem before. A few days ago, it was still an ugly duckling, today it turns into Cinderalla! Amazing! There are at least 10 other same species in the bush that I cant reach to take photo.

I will measure and count its petal after the flower withered. The perfume is so strong that even my neighbour above my unit can smell it. At the moment, the stems are still weak due to lack of care over years, I will protect it from autumn wind by prunning it down and surrounding it with plastic sheets.

Hope you guys like my rose in the messy bush.

Bonjour Pixi! What gorgeous photos of your rose! The more I look at it, and I have been doing a bit more reading about it, I am sure this is "Peace". The deciding factor for me was the label that you found referring to it as a rose of triangular form. Peace is unusual in that it has a confusing parentage, and appears to have three parents! They are "Johanna Hall" X ("Charles P. Kilham" X "Margareth MacGredy").

The hybrid tea, "Peace" rose was bred in France by Francis Meilland in 1945, and named for his mother, "Mme A. Meilland". It has also been known by the names "3-35-40", "Beke", "Fredsrosen", "Gioia", and "Gloria Dei". As mentioned, it has a parentage of three, and a bloodline of 37 roses.

It's flower is a pink and yellow blend, with 40+ petals, and is a repeat bloomer. It has tough, dark green foliage. It reaches a heigt of 4 to 6 feet, and a width of 36 inches.

It has received many awards, a few being:
All American Rose Selection - 1946
Best Yellow Rose - Montreal - 1999
American Rose Society National Gold Medal - 1947
Royal National Rose Socity Gold Medal - 1947
Hague Gold Medal - 1965
and it was inducted into the World Federation of Rose Societies Hall of Fame as the World's Favourite Rose in 1976.

The "Peace" rose is a classic rose, and has been the parent to many more since it's creation.

Good one to have Pixi! You've sure been fortunate - I wish someone would just drop me in the middle of a rare rose garden!!!
