Climbing a fence

My husband's office is in Winston-Salem. It is down the road and around the corner from this fence.

Whoever is maintaining it has very carefully woven the branches through the fence.

I would like to duplicate that in my yard.

Are there tricks to climbers I need to know?

Until now, my usual way to tending to roses is to stick them in the ground and let them grow how they want to, trimming off unhealthy bits and deadheading when necessary. Once a year, I give them a dose of manure.

The 3 bushes I have seem to think that's fine. (I have 2 Natchitoches Noisettes and one Mrs. B. R. Cant .)
