Do I remove the wax on new roses?

Hi everyone,
I am new to the forum...and a new gardener, so any tips would be well appreciated... :D

I recently bought a couple of rose plants, one bush and one climber ...when planting them found them to be covered in wax, there are no leaves on either plant...I followed the instructions for planting, but my question is do I remove the wax?
Also could you tell me if it is necessary to feed them weekly and how long would I have to wait before I should expect new growth?
Many thanx

I wouldn't worry about the wax. It's applied to the plant to help prevent it from drying out during shipment. (and sitting on a shelf for a while)

Eventually it will break down and disappear on it's own, with no harmful effect.

Hopefully you've provided for good drainage, to allow for regular watering, especially until the rosebush is established and growing well.

You could apply a good time release fertilizer such as Osmocote, as per directions, but I wouldn't use too much fertilization until your rose bush is starting to produce buds.

As to when you should expect growth, that will depend a lot on what your temperatures are. Once things warm up in spring, roses really start to take off. So it shouldn't take too long....
