Update from storm....

Thank you everyone for praying for us during the storm. My family and I made it thought the hurricane ok. The wind was shaking the entire house, that was the scarriest part. You could actually feel the walls in the house shake.

As for the plants, few deaths.

Bellaroma was blown out of the ground, and it was broken in half by the crown (the bottom of the plant by the dirt) by a bird bath that landed on it.

Duck Tape Diana - The Princess Diana Tree Rose with Duck Tape (see previous post) was entirely broken off below the ducktape area and thrown into the tomatoes.

Ballon flower plant (shrub with ballon shape purple flowers) was orginally in a pear shape about 4ft X 4ft wide was reduced to a flat fan shape measuring about 2ft X 4ft wide. Its looks like a paper fan you would make with a piece of paper.

Cassia tree was cut in half by the winds. Half of the young tree was uprooted, and had to be removed.

Minor Damage in the area. We were very blessed. To the East of us about 10 miles they had a lot of damage, trees falling into houses, and about a county over they have it worse. We are still experinceing rolling blackouts that last about anywhwere from 1 - 9 hours at a time, multiple times a day. Some spots around here still do not have power. The local energy company is Entergy, and they are based in Beaumont Texas which recieved the majority of the direct hit. Beaumont, Port Authur, Winnie Texas, and even into LA got the worst of the storm. Please keep these people in your thoughts and prayers. My wife has a brother who lives in Lake Charles, and he and his family evacuated to Oaklahoma City. They can't go back for about 3 weeks and they don't know what to expect.

A lot of the local school districts are still closed. I work for Conroe ISD, and our neighboring district Cleveland ISD is closed indefintally. They took a hard hit too. We went back to work yesterday, even thought we are still in rolling blackouts with the kids in class. Imaging 400 teenagers per campus in pitch black rooms, no windows. That is what most of the 7th grade -12 grade campuses are like. It's crazy, but we are managing.

Anyway, back to life, still while keeping our neighbors in prayer.

Kevin - so glad to hear you and your family made it through with "relatively" little damage. I am sorry about your bushes, but, they can always be replaced - a chance to explore something new maybe!
I've watched for your post everyday to see if you were okay. Then you post yesterday - the day the whole northern part of our province internet was wiped out from around 9:00 am to sometime in the middle of last night. I was so frustrated!!!
Anyway, I am glad you are on your way to getting back on your feet, and to a bit of normalcy, with a few interruptions.
Take care of yourselves, and my thoughts are with you and your community members.
