Please help me with victory roses!!!!! :O :O
Please help me!! I need to plant a victory rose plant in a small balcony space! how do I do it? I have never gardened before and I don't want the plants to die!! it was a gift, and I didnt even know that I had to prune it ( what does that mean?) and do other things like mulching (again, confused) and fertilizing(maayyyybe I know what that means..), so I really need some big-time help so that these guys don't get "doomed"
. Thanks a ton!! and the roses say thanks to you guys too! They deserve to live! (they're pretty)

Where in California are you? Have you been to a local nursery/garden supply store (NOT a big box store)?
There are introductory books on how to grow roses, and you can probably get some good general information from the Sunset garden book series. The book might even be named "How to Grow Roses."
Sunset is an excellent source of information, but for just the one plant, I think that their Western Garden Book would be overkill.
So go to that nice, independent local store and ask them. You could be in a climate zone anywhere from Crescent City to Blythe/Needles to Twentynine Palms to Pacifica, so please get some local advice and then let us know more specifics:
--what size is the plant? how old is it?
--what size pot is it in? plastic, terra cotta, other?
--is your balcony to the north, south, east, west of your building?
--approx. how much sun does the plant get per day?
Happy rose-growing.
