snow on the rose
The weather is supposed to get real warm this weekend which will make the snow melt on the Peace rosebush, this rose was planted last summer. Should I put something on it to keep the snow on it or should I just leave it be? It survived being run over with the lawn mower(curtesy of our neighbor), and survived that with a little help from me, should I just leave it alone, after it warms up it is supposed to dip down in the 30's again. I was thinking of putting a bucket or something over it to help keep the snow on it, what do you think?

Well, snow helps protect shrubbery from the winds so I can see why you would want to maintain some snow around it. I just do not know how much snow is going to be saved by doing that. And how much snow your higher temps will melt. The snow protects from the effect of dessicating winds in winter; if there will be little problem from high winds, I would let the snow melt and accumulate again like it did at the start of winter.

It is in the high 50's right now and tomorrow it is going to be in the same range, but then it is supposed to get in the lower 20's and 30's so I put a whole bunch of leaves and a few sticks to help hold the leaves in place, I think that will do just fine. If we get freezing rain, the leaves will help protect it won't it? I put quite a few on there, I was going to put a old rug on it but was afraid it would break the stems. So here is hoping that it survives.

It should although Peace is quite hardy, to Zone 5b. That means it can handle the weather with no special winter protection other than mulch (I would still baby it since it is its first year, was planted no too long ago and I like to protect them from cold winds).
