Roses growing up my wall - not climbers

What is with these roses??? I live near Portland, OR, and have four bush roses planted about 2 or 2 1/2 feet out from the wall. They were pruned very close for winter, but the wall side of two of the four has grown thickly and toward the wall, while the open side is sparse and not as healthy looking. Isn't that backward?? They are on the south side of the house, which is yellow. Does the sun's warmth and light reflected off the house cause this? Those two rose bushes are now growing up the wall, although they are not climbers. I've never seen this before. What is it? Why don't all four do it?

Could be reflected light or the direct light may be too intense for those particular roses (although I've never heard of such a thing.

Is the lawn encroaching? Are you using weed and feed on the lawn? Drift from Round-Up?

Yes, my hubby did use weed and feed a couple of months ago. And now, some of the roses also seem to have a disease. The huge buds have kind of petrified before blooming, they look very much like paper mache. I'm afraid they have all been too neglected and have a disease.

Could very well be the weed in Weed 'N' Feed going to work on your roses; herbicides are generally non-speciific so they would not spare your rose while killing plantain. Another reason not to use them...
