I have never grown roses before, and want to plant a "sub-zero" rose, variety "Arctic Flame". I have a book with excellent instructions on how to prepare the soil, and am fairly certain that I can have a fair bit of success at least in the first year. My question is this: because of space concerns (and the fact that I don't want to do too much digging), I would like to grow this plant in a raised bed. Since I live in zone 5, I would like to know if this is advisable, I.e. will it survive the winter? My dad tells me that if I put it in a pot, the roots will probably freeze and kill the plant, but do I run the same risk with a raised bed?
Any help you can offer would be much appreciated.

Well, no where near the same danger, anyway. Shouldn't be a problem, although never having lived as far north as you, I'm not entirely sure. Heard good things about the Sub-Zero's and I feel you're okay, but perhaps checking with a local nursery or extension service (ours are state by state, so I don't now if it's provincial for you).
