Edible Roses?

Are all types of Roses edible? (the pedals and fruit)

I have inquired at the herbarium at my University, hopefully they will provide me with an answer that I can post here soon.

Not sure if they are, but I know they don't taste very nice. My brother told me they were edible when I was little, so I picked a load of petals and shoved them into my mouth, chewed and swallowed. Bleurgh, not nice! Be interested to hear answer though.

Rose petals and the hips are both edible. They need to be sweetened to be palatable.
