Wintering lilac bushes

This past summer, I bought several lilac bushes to be planted. They never did get planted and we're neglected. They weren't neglected to the point of dying however and was able to get them going again late in the fall, still in the planters they came in.

Missing out on planting them in the fall, I brought them inside to try and keep them going a little longer.

They are growing well now, but still in the planters. I was hoping to put them in larger planters, then try and let them get acclimated to those, then try and winterize them to get them healthy to plant in the spring.

I'm a little stuck at this point at what to do since they've been in the house until now.

I'm assuming they need some sort of training rather than an immediate change, but don't know what the next steps should be and am looking for advice.

I do have a garage they can go to that stays between 35-45 in the winter.
