Lilacs in Bermuda

Hello everyone,

I live in Bermuda and would like to know if it is possible to grow lilacs here. I have just gotten approval to import some seeds but wanted to check with the experts first!

I am also open to tips and tricks.

Thank you :-()

I don't think so. Lilacs are basically cold winter plants that need some cold dormancy. There are some varieties ("Miss Kim" is frequently mentioned, but there are others), that have been bred to need less chilling and tolerate heat better. But even so, the farthest south I have heard of any success is USDA zone 9, which is places like Louisiana and Mississipi. Even in south Florida, I do not believe any lilacs grow.

You have so many beautiful tropicals, why not grow something that is adapted to your climate? Fragrant shrubs include crepe jasmine and natal plum.
