Lilac dying.

I have got a Lilac for Mother’s day last year. Unfortunately; it has been severe damaged by deer. Branches are broken and dying; a lot of bark has been eaten away. Still; there are some buds and small leaves. How can I help my Lilac to survive? Shall I take away the almost dead branches? Please advise; since I got this Lilac from my children. Thanks

Hello, lucenda. If the bark is exposed, I would cut the branches and proceed to see how to prevent deer from returning.

Since this was posted so long ago, I was wondering... what did you do?
