Hey, all!
I am in zone 5 and have a very small (approximately 1 ft tall) lilac. I transplanted it into the yard from a pot a month or two ago. Mulched the base. We have had wierd weather. Frost already, but it is about 60 today. The lilac has lost all but a couple of its leaves. It has 2 stems.
I would like to know if there is anything that I can or should do to ensure that it will survive the winter for me.
It is a Charles Joly lilac that my MIL bought for my son (Charles) as a first communion gift, so I would be devistated if I killed it.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Lilacs are a very hardy breed. Planting it in a sunny locaton is essential for maximum blooms. Mulching is a good thing, especially when newly planted. Just make sure you water it well during the dry periods next summer until it gets established.
I have included a website for Charles Joly.

Hi MomJ,
Great advice from Ian. Here's how to care for lilacs. Do be sure to water if there is no rain or snow cover and the ground is not frozen.
