Lilacs done blooming for the year?

I got some new dwarf lilac bushes about a month ago and they have grown a bit and look very healthy. The one bush had a couple of blooms on it and now they are dead. Are they done blooming for the year or did I not water my lilacs enough and the blooms died? Also, since these are brand new bushes, do I need to prune them at all this year? If so, how and when? Thanks in advance!

Yup it's done bloomin'. Now you need to cut off those dead blooms, and read the info at helpfulgardener.com about pruning.

Many in here rave about feeding pure wood ash to lilacs, so this year I did it. We probably had the showiest bushes in the county. It's going to take weeks to cut off all those dead blooms. I highly recommend pure wood ash as food for lilacs. :)
