Lilacs won't flower after being cut back

:( 5 years ago I had gardner cut back a lilac bush. He went down to about 3 feet. It has not flowered since then. Is there anything I could do to make it flower again?

You need to fertilize with potash or some other high potasssium fertilizer (good old ashes will do the trick). It seems strange to me that five years have gone by without flowers; have you pruned since? If so when?

Hi Scott, Thanks for responding to my question. Can I use ashes from my fireplace? No, the bush has not been trimmed since then but has become very big.

Yep, fireplace ashes work fine...
