Does it taste/smell like celery?
Is it possible you had let one go to seed and the seeds got scattered?

It doesn't smell like anything and I'm too chicken to taste it.
That is possible because the lady who lived here before us had a garden.

I'm at a loss. I'm amazed how it's just all over my whole yard. Like little carrots growing everywhere.

Celeriac roots are tight and almost wrapped around the celery root.

(Trying to learn the new term: "hypocotyl." ;))

Root parsley looks like a white carrot or parsnip.

It doesn't look like creeping buttercup but I wonder if it is a different Ranunculus. Some of those are toxic.

I was thinking something like a parsley or parsnip too, the leaf looks like parsley.

Thanks for your replies. Sorry I'm getting back to you late. Here's more pictures. I have so many of these growing! I really want to know what they are and if they are edible. They are growing in my carrot bed and all in my garden too. Everywhere in the grass. Wild parsnip?

I live in south texas btw... idk if that helps. I saw a picture of the buttercup flower leaves and it does look like that but the roots aren't the same. I keep coming back to wild parsnip. Is all wild parsnip edible?

We have wild parsnip growing wild in the lower elevation areas, along roads and such. Pastinaca sativa, wild parsnip (You can click on the images to see them better. Calphoto, a University of California website has better pictures.)

I don't think the leaves look like your plants.

I grow parsnips every year and the roots don't look like that ... maybe there are other species that look similar but I don't know about them. You can type in "parsnip" (common name) in that USDA website linked and see other plants with similar names.

I was thinking ranunculus-buttercups, too -- especially the newer pic from Nov. 8. Do they look like this at all?

Thank you for your replies. I was kinda hoping it would be something cool like parsley root or parsnip. But guess it's just a weed. I did find Coriander though and it could be that??? :?
What do y'all think? I guess I could always let them grow and see what happens

Yeah, I know what you mean -- it would be much "funner" (as my DD used to say  )

The leaves look like wild geraniums but I don't know what the roots of those look like.

Don't mow a small section and see if it ever flowers. That would narrow the possibilities.

Ok! I have so many and they are all the same size. So we shall see... maybe in a few more months. I planted my carrot seeds on Saturday so they'll be growing with this mystery plant lol.

I think parsley root. This website really helped. It's really the only option. It's the one thing I keep coming back to.

A malva?!

Well, south Texas yes but the native Callirhoe involucrata is not here. At least that helps my ego ;). Thanks for letting us know.

Looks a bit like wild geranium but again, many plants have similar leaves. Let a few grow and flower then maybe it can be identified.
