What is this plant?

This was given to me by someone who said it was called Devil's Claw. Aptly named, I thought, as it has sharp spines on the points of the leaves. However, when I googled Devil's Claw to find out how to care for it, I discovered that it doesn't look like any of the photos of Devil's Claw on the Internet.
I have attached a photo, but here are a few other details that might aid in identification; it has been blooming for about a month and the color was deeper at first - best described as chocolatey lavender in color. It is about 1 metre tall. It's growing in Zone 8.
