Ornamental grasses turn yellow within a month?

Hi there,

I have a few clumps of these ornamental grasses in our garden. They're perennial; they start out nice and green in May (I'm in Montreal, zone 5), and then at the beginning of June they start to go yellow and brown. I wouldn't mind so much if they were more upright, but it just looks like a bunch of dead grass in the garden!
As you can see, the blades are striped

And even if the clumps stay green for a while, the blades get so long (about 2') and lie flat on the ground. Does anyone know what kind of grass it is, and what I'm supposed to do with it? Should I just cut it back when it gets like this?

Thanks for your help and/or suggestions :)

Doesn't look ornamental to me, though I know some people like some kinds of grasses. After having to mow for so long, I don't like any of them. Ugh. It would be easy to shovel it up and put something more interesting there.

I just might end up doing that. For more pictures, check my post in the perennial forum:
