Hello,
I have a houseplant that I inherited and have no idea what it is - it's survived my questionable care and even had a big red flower once!
I'd love to move this plant outside (if possible). I live in Toronto Ontario.
Any help in ID'ing would be much appreciated!

I keep seeing hibiscus in those leaves. Could that flower be a double flowered hibiscus? Was there a long feathery yellow or pink center part to the flower?
...hmm maybe like this one? (this is random image from Internet)

If tropical hibiscus, it will need to stay indoors until low temp stabilizes at/above 50's° F

Ahhh, yes hibiscus!
I agree, it looks a bit more like a hibiscus than what I suggested before.
Maybe when it flowers again, you should check just to be 100% sure.
Also, if it is a hibiscus (I'm almost sure it is) I would move it outside now. Make sure to keep the soil most but don't let in stand in water. I'd say water it once every day.
You can keep it in a pot outdoors all summer long and when winter comes, bring it indoors.
