Mysterious flowering vine?

IMAG1232.jpg
I'm not sure what this is!! I had it in my tropical chameleon terrarium and it flowered. From what I've seen philodendron don't flower quite like this?
They're such cute, delicate spears!!

just for the record, what you're looking at there isn't a flower. it's an aerial root.

Woah!! Cool to know! How do they occur? I've seen the "root" looking ones but they literally look like petals. :-()

Re: Mysterious flowering vine?

actually i think i was looking at something else - a leaf stem maybe? the petal-like structures, i don't think are flowers either - my philodendron has a number of them, too - they wrap all the new growth, but mostly fall off pretty quickly.

they're not too different in structure from the flowers in that family group, but they seem to be missing the important anatomy.

Re: Mysterious flowering vine?

That is not a flower-it is part of the new growth when a new leaf/stem came out. I believe this is called a "heart-leafed philodendren". I have a rather large one.

Re: Mysterious flowering vine?

It's Philodendron hederaceum/scandens. The pretty pinkish orange leaf sheaths are called cataphylls.

'Pink Princess' is a cultivar of P. erubescens with larger leaves that have light pink splotches.
