Common weed to ID >> VIRGINIA WATERLEAF

This is a common weed around here in the midwest/great lakes area. It grows to may 5 or 10 inches tall, seems to grow well in semi-shade areas. It has not yet flowered. Any ideas? Thank you.

Re: Common weed to ID

At first it appeared to be poison ivy, but I think it is Virginia Waterleaf

I think it's safe to assume it's not poison ivy. I'm not exactly sure what it is. I thought Virginia waterleaf, too, but I'm not even sure of that. Some of those basal leaves look a lot like early white avens but the upper leaves don't. Be sure to take a photo if it blooms. That will tell us a lot.

About poison ivy... that was my first reaction! But I'm sure it's not (either that, or I'm somehow immune to poison ivy!)

Yes, from looking further, my guess is you're right, it's Virginia Waterleaf. I'll post a photo when it blooms and we'll know for sure.

Thank you both for the feedback.

Yes, definitely Virginia Waterleaf. It flowers just like in this picture at Wikipedia -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrophyllum_virginianum. Thanks all.
