They aren't mine.

DW is interested in them (& she can take care of them if she gets them ;)). I'm not very good with containerized plants of any sort but I thought I'd ask what they are to start off :). I'd appreciate your positive ID's and guesses - I don't even know where to start with a search!

Steve

I think there are 3 or 4 pictures she has. I'll start with this one.

This looks like a Calathea or Maranta, not sure from this pic. There are many of each, with some very similar leaves among both genera.

Hey!

Thank you. You probably just named 2 for one since another is very similar, Purpleinopp!

I won't post that one and this isn't such a great picture (I'm not the photographer) but ... what do you think?

And, here is the final one.

The plants are quite small but I said I'd ask  .

Is that its flower? Could it be Gloxinia?

Yes, I think the top one is a Maranta, or prayer plant variety. Not sure about the second. The third one looks like some sort of impatiens.

It would be an inconsequential looking gloxinia variety, from my limited experience with those "florist flowers." Suggesting that it's a gloxinia of-little-consequence to DW, might hurt her feelings ;).

Impatiens aren't very common here. The arid summers don't allow the blooms to last any time or even open properly. I know there are several species, but ...

These plants were outdoors in the summer, in a little shade house. The gardener didn't (couldn't?) identify any.

Happy to share a suggestion! The next pic could be one of several things, but the red stripe brings this Curcuma to mind first:

Here's your 3rd pic upright.

Mysterious! The flower looks like a member of the Marantaceae family, (Maranta, Calathea, & other genera listed at this Wiki link,) but I don't recognize the leaves from this pic. Maybe try a different-angle pic?

It would make sense if it's another prayer plant cousin.

There is another photo very similar to the first that I didn't post. The lady may have had an interest in that family and just had 3 varieties/species.

I think that ginger lily is right! Hidden lily?

Prayer plant cousins, I should have figured out, although I'm not sure if I would have known anything about one without the contrasting markings ... I have seen ginger but, of course, it's the flowers which catch our attention. Other features would be hidden from the casual observer - me.

Thank You, Everyone!

Steve

As obvious by the little bloom, a name hasn't been needed so far to grow it well. Happy to share suggestions. Enjoy!
