What is this and how do I get rid of it?!
I have just bought a house and am finding woody stems growing up everywhere, both at the front and back of the house. There is a picture attached. several have been cut off by the previous owner but still seem to be living and healthy. Do any of you have any idea what it is and how I can stop them coming back?

Hi and welcome to the Forum! 
It's hard to tell much from bare stems, though maybe someone can. They will become much easier to ID once they leaf out and easier still if they bloom. Once they have leaves, come back and post a new picture.
In the meantime, I couldn't quite tell from the picture, do they have thorns? If so maybe old rose bushes?
