Need help with plant

I have several patches of these growing - actually seems to be one root that spreads. It grows low to ground - maybe 4 inches in height. Also the color is somewhat darker green.

This pic is pretty fuzzy. Compare to Dianthus (there are MANY) and Saponaria. If neither look like a match, try adding another pic?

I hoping it will bloom and help me identify. The leaves are a very rich green. Also it appears to look like several sprouts but actually has one or two roots and spreads out then up. Will try to get better pics at daylight.

Some of the stems are about 8 inches. The strange thing about it is that it grows outward across the soil then upward. The stems that are 6 to 8 inches now have the spiky tips. It grows in a cluster.

That's it! Thank you. I know someone else suggested dianthus but I didn't know little buds would form in the spiky growth. I really appreciate everyone's help.

Beautiful! Do these have a scent, too?
