Hello! I pulled this out of my garden grown in with my peppers. I did not plant it, perhaps the birds brought it in. It is like a carrot, but tanish in color and the tip of the "root" is real thin. The "root part is about 16" long and the tops are about the same. Any ideas? It is driving me crazy. :-()

It looks like a parsnip to me, but it always helps to see the leaves of a plant, too.

Merged the two separate threads
Curly dock? Is the root yellow inside?

What's strange is that I didn't see any of those top photos when I first opened the page. I'm sure curly dock is correct. I used to have a ton of it, but for some reason this year, along with the common mullein, it has all but vanished. Even the yarrow has diminished a lot. On the other hand, there is a great deal more aster growing this year. Makes me wonder if these plants take turns dominating an area.
