Plant/Leaf id help?

Several of these have popped up in my garden. Does anyone recognize the leaves and have any idea what it may be?

It does look like some kind of tree or shrub seedling. Do you see any larger specimen in the area?

could be seedling sycamore...or maybe birch of some sort. leaning towards sycamore, though.
