what is this please?

Good morning,

Saw a few of these outside a restaurant, looks like it/they could make an effective screen.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like bamboo. If there is not an effective barrier to it spreading (by its roots) youj can expect a law suit from your neighbors,

It's bamboo all right, and Tom is right. Seriously invasive, keep in a pot, or else grow at your own peril!
My definition of insanity; trying to grow heirloom tomatoes in South Florida!

i generally agree with what's been said, except that there are clumping or spreading species of bamboo. the clumpers are much less likely to get you in trouble with our neighbors...but a rhizome barrier is still recommended.
