My grandma gave me this plant last weekend. She said it gets little purple flowers on it. I have no idea what it is or how to best care for it.. any ideas??

I agree -- columbine/aquilegia.
I have small purple flowered ones too though I don't know if they are the same as yours. They do well in part shade and are pretty drought tolerant. They readily reseed themselves.
Mine are prone to leaf miners, so if you start seeing squiggly marks on the leaves, either squish where the line ends and there is a darker area (larva which has been burrowing inside the leaf) or cut out the squiggles with scissors and completely dispose (not in compost).
