another plant identification - purple flowering houseplant

have this plant which was a gift. it has beautiful purple flowers when it blooms but I don't know what it is. any ideas?

I'd say African Violet. My mother-in-law has quite a few of them on her window sills.

African Violet for sure. Nice looking plant, too. It looks like you have new growth there, as well.

I have a few African violets that one is a beautiful one it should last you for years.

If you have cats, mine love to eat the flowers -- not poisonous to therm, but I WOULD like to enjoy the flowers sometimes too (not to eat but to look at :wink:)

no cats and luckily my dog doesn't have an appetite for flowers but thanks for that tip!
