Am I a Ponytail Palm?

Sat Oct 01, 2011 11:30 pm

So I got this plant as a gift. The tag says "elemental bonsai" and the companys website doesn't have a picture of the plant or it's latin name or anything.

My first thought was that it was a ponytail palm, but my boyfriend has a ponytail palm and says it's not.

I thought it was because of the caudex which was silly of me. I looked up some other plants with caudexs on wikipedia but none of them really resembled mine.

While the leaves look broad for Beaucarnia recurvata, without 'smellavision' and 'feelavision' and 'closerupavision', it looks like a ponytail palm to me.

Beats me why anyone would want to call it a bonsai, but it's pretty elemental and healthy looking.

The leaves are tough, are they not? And sharp enough to cut you?

The leaves are very tough and are pretty sharp, they could probably cut me if i pressed down with enough force.

Hi nk, I can see where your bf is coming from, your plant has very small caudexes and ponytails palms usually don't come with two caudexes in one pot. However, after doing a quick search for you I found this and thought it might help you out.

Wow that link is extremely helpful! That looks just like my plant, thank you so much. After reading that, I will have to repot mine!
