Weird volunteer getting huge

Does anyone have any idea what this is? I originally thought squash... Then it kind of looked like an eggplant, but now it's over 2 feet tall and I'm baffled. It popped up out of nowhere and is doing well despite not ever being watered and us being in a terrible drought.

I second sunflower. Maybe dropped seed by a bird, etc.

My observation of a multi-headed sunflower last year leads me to think this one will be multi-headed, too -- with extra flower buds growing from the leaf nodes as well as at the top.

Oh my gosh! You're totally right! I bought Goliath sunflowers a few years back; I bet they reseeded when we tilled the backyard this past year. It never even crossed my mind that that's what it could be. Thank you both so much!
