Plant ID please

Hi all,
Have had a diffenbachia for around 3 years now. It's going great and obviously loves the position it's in. Recently a new plant has started to grow in the pot and I don't know if it's a weed or not? The leaves are the same shape as the diff but the stem is very different, and it has spikes

Hi - since you didn't get a response to this, I would re post it in our plant ID section. This introduction section is mainly for people to say hi, I'm here, this is what I'm interested in. Lots of people don't bother to read all the intros. More people who like the challenge of figuring things like this out, will see it in the ID section.

It looks like some kind of tree- looks a little like lemon tree, but I don't think it really is.

Rainbow, you are right about it being a citrus of some kind, as it has unifoliolate compound leaves.

I see applestar kindly moved this to the plant ID section for you, so you don't need to repost it!

Martine - welcome to the forum. Is the new growth attached to the main plant or growing separately? I agree that it looks like citrus. If it is separate from the plant a citrus seed may have inadvertently fallen into the pot and sprouted. If separate - dig it out. If attached cut it off.

Good luck

Do you think it's a meyer lemon tree? I see some nasty looking thorns on it.
