Orange flowers, weed or a keeper?

My husband and I recently moved into my childhood home in North Texas inherited a vast and overgrown garden. Currently we are hacking away at the weeds to uncover the hidden gems. This flowering plant is pretty and we are trying to identify it. Orange and yellow flowers and about 2 - 3 ft tall. We are interested in converting this bed into a food and herb garden. Originally I thought it may be calendula but after some reascearch I don't think so. I'd be interested in keeping it if it is beneficial or edible.

Looks like wild marigold to me. They have medicinal uses as well as pest repellent uses.

Does it have a strong pleasant odor?

Thanks! It is cosmos! No fragrance and when I mentioned it to my Mom it sparked her memory and she remembered planting them as seeds :) Thanks again for the quick response!
