Saw this red plant like a red nettle, but not stinging, in a spontaneous location, but I'm suspecting it's an introduced one, not from spontaneous flora. What name have this plant ?
OK... I was thinking coleus too. I have a fancy leafed coleus that looks a lot like that. But I hadn't said anything, because I wasn't sure it was right. I'm not familiar with the perilla, but looking it up, it makes sense.
It looks like perilla to me too. Perilla blooms in the fall with flowers and square stems like a coleus but the leaves on the perillas that I am familiar with have a strong spicy aroma when crushed while coleus has little smell. Perillas come in purple and green and they are used in Asian cooking. The seeds are also edible and make a fine cooking oil.
