54 degrees - Lettuce - Flood table - Greenhouse

The lettuce and pea shoots, in the greenhouse are just hanging in there. They received a pretty good hit of cold a few days ago. Hope to get a few more meals.

The flood and drain hybrid system is pretty smelly and the pea gravel is infiltrated with algae. Should I be concerned about the lettuce harvested?

The lettuce I broadcast in the gravel is doing almost as well as the potted plants.

Got pretty cold at night. Are your water drums helping! Below 20 will be too cold.

Bobberman,

I removed the water storage sometime ago. It was taking up to much space and really did prove effective anyway.

No supplemental heat. The permanent raised beds probably absorb a little heat during the day.

Now that the greenhouse is mostly empty, it's time to think subterranean. Collect heat at the ceiling and pump underground.

My barrel storage seems to work great but I have to have the double plastic or it won't work! The improvement I made this year is a pipe or two two foot above each barrel extending into the bottom and the metal pipe painted blace. It seems to warm the water a few degrees warmer expecially the barrels under the counters! I am going to have a small fan running blowing on the bottom of the barrels fom noon till 3 pm when the greenhouse is usually 60 or more!

I would use a thermostat on your fan, not a timer. Everyday between noon and 3:00 will not be the same. The fan will come on at a predetermined temperature. No need to blow cold air.

Ya I may go with the thermastat. I did buy one already. I also think the air circulation will keep the plants more healthy and less mold!
