purple Liatris pruning question

When the fuzzy flowers die the little bulb closes up. Then sometimes new bulbs start coming out between the old ones. Do I pluck out the old ones or cut off the whole stock down to the bottom of the plant?

No need to cut back, finches will use the seed pods for food.
