I don't know what to do...Each year my coreopsis start out growing great and then once they begin to bloom a little, look like an elephant stomped in the middle of them. For the remainder of the season, they are beautiful, except for the giant hole in the middle of the plant! I don't know why... anyone else have this problem or any idea of what I can do? My mom has coreopsis too, but her's don't do this!

Neighborhood cat? We have feral cats here that like to sleep in the beds. They flatten whatever they choose....
Could be that they aren't getting enough light where they are, so they're getting a bit leggy. Leggy plants aren't as stout and strong as their shorter, well sunned friends, so they fall over.
